Chefaa, a fast-growing Cairo-based HeathTech startup announced earlier this week that it had raked in six-figure seed investment from some of the most prominent investors globally.

The round was led by 500 Startups with a significant contribution coming from Flat6Labs, which had participated in the company’s earlier funding rounds too. Chefaa, however, was not willing to disclose the exact size of the investment.

For those unfamiliar with the startup, Chefaa was co-founded in 2017 by Dr. Doaa Aref, a Ph.D. in Business Analysis and Dr. Rasha Rady, a Ph.D. in Pediatrics. The company offers a dedicated mobile app that allows patients with chronic diseases to order medicine online and have them delivered right at their doorstep.

For convenience, users can order their monthly dose of medicines once and then repeat it every month. Additionally, the app also sends periodic reminders so users don’t forget to order place their orders on time. Not only that, if the supply of a particular medicine is drying up in the market, the app lets users know in advance so they can consult their doctors for an alternative.

While the company primarily focuses on patients with chronic diseases, anybody with a prescription can use the app to order medicines.

Currently operational in nine Egyptian cities, Chefaa claims to have more than a million sales already to its name.

Commenting on Flat6Labs’ decision to invest in the startup, Marie Therese Fam, Managing Partner of Flat6Labs Cairo, stated: “Flat6Labs believed in Chefaa from day one. With the strong team leading Chefaa and their vision, we are confident in their ability to lead the digital transformation in the healthcare sector not only in Egypt  but across the entire MENA region.”
