Zain Bahrain and ARKEDU launch school e-waste drive to boost student awareness

Sep 30, 2025

Zain Bahrain has partnered with Abdulrahman Kanoo Education (ARKEDU) to launch a school e-waste awareness initiative that combines on-campus collection with student workshops on safe disposal and recycling. The program installs a dedicated drop box for old electronics at the school, with Zain Bahrain handling secure collection and certified recycling, and ARKEDU coordinating classroom activities and sessions for students and staff.

“Zain Bahrain is committed to cultivating strategic environmental awareness and encouraging positive behaviors in the community. It is our responsibility to reach youth through educational and community partnerships, and to engage them in their own environments to build a culture of sustainability,” said Fatema Haider, Senior Manager of Sustainability, Inclusivity, and Culture at Zain Bahrain.

E-waste initiatives are not new to Zain Bahrain. The company’s long-running program, outlined on its corporate sustainability page, has involved local partners and public campaigns to promote responsible disposal. Earlier collaborations include a school-focused drive covered by Zawya and ongoing awareness under the Z-Waste banner noted by News of Bahrain. For ARKEDU, the initiative adds a practical sustainability track that aligns with its mission to empower students as principled citizens, reflected across the group’s official site.

What the rollout includes
  • On-campus collection: A dedicated box for phones, batteries, peripherals, and small devices, placed in a supervised area. Zain Bahrain manages periodic collection and certified recycling through approved partners, consistent with practices described in its e-waste initiative materials and past school collaborations such as this ARKIS collection announcement.

  • Student workshops: Sessions led with the school to explain e-waste risks, how materials are recovered, and what responsible disposal looks like at home and on campus.

  • Awareness activities: Age-appropriate campaigns and challenges that encourage classes to reduce, reuse, and recycle devices rather than discarding them.

Zain Bahrain has repeatedly involved schools and government stakeholders in e-waste awareness, including national competitions highlighted by BNA and community drives reported by Bahrain This Week. The approach blends simple collection points with clear messaging to students and families.

Where to learn more?

This school partnership adds another accessible channel for families to dispose of unused devices safely, while helping students understand the lifecycle of electronics and the benefits of recycling to Bahrain’s environment. It is a practical, Bahrain-first model that other schools can adopt quickly, using a mix of on-site collection and simple, engaging learning activities.
