Al Salam Bank has officially partnered with Tamkeen’s Open Innovation Programme—an ambitious national initiative designed to boost financial innovation by connecting major enterprises with Bahrain’s growing startup and SME ecosystem. Spearheaded by Bahrain’s Labour Fund (Tamkeen) and delivered in partnership with Brinc MENA, the programme acts as a strategic platform for developing transformative solutions that address real-world business needs while accelerating digital growth and sustainability.
This collaboration marks a milestone, as Al Salam Bank becomes the first banking institution to join the initiative. The move highlights the bank’s forward-looking approach to fintech and its commitment to shaping the future of digital banking in Bahrain. The Open Innovation Programme encourages local startups and small businesses to co-create with established organizations, unlocking new pathways to operational excellence and economic resilience.
The agreement was formalized at Tamkeen’s headquarters with the participation of Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez, Chief Executive of Tamkeen; Anwar Murad, Deputy CEO of Banking at Al Salam Bank; and Hussain Haji, Managing Director at Brinc. Through this partnership, Al Salam Bank will collaborate with selected startups to co-develop and fund proof-of-concept initiatives that address key strategic priorities.
This initiative supports the broader goals of Tamkeen’s 2025 strategy, which prioritizes enhancing the private sector’s talent pool, advancing business innovation, and accelerating digital transformation. Commenting on the partnership, Maha Mofeez stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Al Salam Bank to the programme. Their involvement sends a strong signal about the growing role of innovation in Bahrain’s economic diversification journey. This platform is a gateway for startups and SMEs to create high-impact solutions alongside leading enterprises.”
Echoing this vision, Anwar Murad of Al Salam Bank noted, “Innovation is woven into our strategic roadmap. By engaging with local startups, we aim to strengthen our digital capabilities, reimagine client experiences, and streamline operations. This collaboration empowers us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in banking.”
A dedicated steering committee made up of representatives from Tamkeen, Brinc, and Al Salam Bank will guide the programme’s direction—selecting high-potential startups and ensuring alignment with the bank’s evolving innovation goals. “This is more than just a partnership; it’s an ecosystem enabler,” said Brinc’s Hussain Haji. “By bridging the gap between corporations and agile tech ventures, we’re paving the way for breakthroughs in automation, cybersecurity, and customer-centric banking experiences.”
