The results of the Ugandan leg of the Seedstars World competition are out with the award for the best-emerging startup going to Agro Supply, a startup that finances emerging agricultural technologies using mobile micro-savings schemes.
The event took place on Aug 24 at the Outbox Hub in Kampala. Ten startups were shortlisted to pitch at the event, of which Agro Supply managed to deliver the best performance. The startup will now participate in the Seedstar Global final, to be held in Switzerland next year. The global edition of the competition will give Agro Supply a shot at winning $1 million in equity investment. “We are thrilled and happy to present our solution to the world, and this is an opportunity for us to shine,” said Ogwal Joseph, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Agro Supply, after winning Seedstar’s Uganda chapter.
Digital currency exchange platform CoinPesa came second in the competition whereas the third spot held by Bringo Fresh Deliveries, another agri-tech startup that aims to provide farmers with more comfortable access to the market.
The competition was judged by a panel of 10 juries that included Herve Kubwimana, head of Merck Accelerator; CK Japhet, team leader at Innovation Village; and Takuma Terakubo, founder of Leapfrog Ventures, among others.
