Bahrain is taking a bold step toward digital transformation with a new proposal to expand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across government ministries. The initiative, provisionally approved by Parliament, aims to enhance efficiency, streamline public services, and strengthen governance.

A strategic move toward AI integration

Led by Hassan Ibrahim, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee, the proposal has been forwarded to relevant committees for further evaluation. Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam emphasized AI’s potential to:
Optimize service delivery – Automating processes to reduce administrative burdens
Improve decision-making – Leveraging AI to analyze large datasets and develop proactive solutions
Enhance transparency – Using AI-driven financial audits to detect irregularities and combat corruption

Balancing innovation with workforce concerns

While AI adoption promises greater efficiency and cost control, the proposal will also assess potential job displacement risks and security considerations. Ibrahim highlighted AI’s ability to improve governance by identifying inefficiencies and ensuring optimal use of public funds.

AI as a tool for better governance

The initiative aligns with Bahrain’s digital transformation agenda, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to smart governance and financial integrity. By harnessing AI, Bahrain aims to create a more efficient, transparent, and data-driven public sector—setting a precedent for the region.

As AI continues to shape the future of governance, Bahrain is positioning itself as a leader in AI-driven public administration.
