As part of Bahrain’s national strategic projects, His Excellency General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology, announced the official launch of the My Gov and eKey 2.0 apps. The initiative, approved by the Cabinet chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, was developed by the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) in collaboration with government and private sector entities.

Enhancing Digital Government Services

HE General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa emphasized Bahrain’s continued leadership in digital transformation, attributing its success to the strategic vision and direct support of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He noted that Bahrain’s advancements in eGovernment and digital services, recognized in UN rankings, reflect the Kingdom’s commitment to streamlining government processes and enhancing service efficiency.

The newly launched apps will play a key role in strengthening digital governance, improving accessibility, and ensuring security:

  • My Gov App: A comprehensive national platform, initially offering 41 high-demand eServices from nine government entities, designed in line with international best practices with a focus on user accessibility, security, and privacy.
  • eKey 2.0 App: A secure digital identity solution, introducing biometric authentication and surpassing 2 million verifications per month. It provides a unified, high-security login system, ensuring seamless authentication across government and private-sector services.

Public-Private Collaboration Driving Digital Innovation

Highlighting Bahrain’s global leadership in the ICT sector, Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, CEO of iGA, noted that the Kingdom currently provides 720 eServices across various platforms and ranks 18th globally in the UN E-Government Development Index. He also outlined Bahrain’s digital service strategy, which aligns with the Government Action Plan (2023–2026) and the Telecommunications, ICT, and Digital Economy Strategy (2022–2026).

Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, CEO of Beyon Digital Growth, praised the public-private sector collaboration in developing eKey 2.0, highlighting its user-controlled data management, seamless registration process, and password-free login via facial recognition, ensuring top-tier security.

A Commitment to Secure and Efficient Digital Services

During the launch event, a video presentation showcased the capabilities of My Gov and eKey 2.0, emphasizing their role in digitalizing government services, enhancing public-private partnerships, and improving eGovernment service efficiency.

As part of the launch, the Minister of Interior honored the first government and private sector entities that integrated their services into My Gov and eKey 2.0, along with the National Cybersecurity Centre, recognizing its pivotal role in supporting the project’s successful implementation.

By embracing cutting-edge technology and reinforcing digital security, Bahrain continues to position itself as a regional leader in eGovernment innovation, driving forward its digital transformation agenda.
