Bahrain’s alternative investment company Investcorp has announced the establishment of a $1 billion fund in collaboration with China’s sovereign wealth fund, China Investment Corporation (CIC). This fund aims to target high-growth companies spanning Saudi Arabia, the wider Gulf region, and China, signaling a significant advancement in global investment partnerships.
The platform, which boasts support from institutional and private investors across the Gulf, will concentrate on sectors primed for expansion, including consumer goods, healthcare, logistics, and business services. This endeavor underscores the growing allure of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to institutional investors worldwide.
Mohammed Alardhi, Executive Chairman of Investcorp, expressed confidence in the venture, stating, “This commitment by CIC, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, is a testament to Investcorp’s unparalleled franchise in the GCC.” Alardhi emphasized the trust placed in Investcorp’s global platform and teams, underscoring the firm’s pivotal role in facilitating international investment cooperation.
Hazem Ben-Gacem, Co-CEO of Investcorp, highlighted the strategic positioning of the company, stating, “Investcorp is perfectly placed to facilitate cross-border cooperation and investments between the GCC and China.” This sentiment aligns with the broader vision of strengthening financial and industrial ties between the two regions.
China’s CIC, a significant player in the global investment landscape, has been instrumental in driving industrial cooperation between China and other major economies. Dr. Bin Qi, Executive Vice President and Deputy CIO of CIC, affirmed this saying, “Currently we are working closely with Investcorp to build a similar bilateral fund to strengthen financial and industrial ties between China and GCC countries.”
As both regions continue to witness rapid economic growth and technological advancement, this collaboration heralds a new era of mutually beneficial investment opportunities on the global stage.
