Bahrain’s leading communications and technology company, Beyon, has selected Aecom as the master planner for its ambitious $700 million Digital City project in Hamala. This milestone marks a major step in establishing a premier technology and innovation hub in Bahrain.

As the master planner, Aecom will oversee the comprehensive design and integration of commercial, technological, and lifestyle elements, including landscaped public spaces and key urban amenities. A core focus of the project is ensuring seamless connectivity with Bahrain’s existing and future transport infrastructure.

The Bahrain Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA) will play a vital role in aligning the Digital City with the nation’s broader urban expansion strategy. This includes integrating internal traffic systems and linking the city to major transport networks, facilitating smooth growth and connectivity.

The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony at Beyon’s headquarters, attended by key figures such as:

  • Andrew Kvaalseth, CEO of Beyon

  • Faisal Al Jalahma, Chairman of the Digital City Development Company

  • Engineer Ahmed Al Khayat, CEO of Bahrain’s UPDA

  • David Border, Head of Buildings + Places at Aecom Bahrain

Faisal Al Jalahma emphasized that Aecom’s appointment is a significant step toward positioning Digital City as a global technology hub. The project aims to attract foreign investment in technology, commerce, and R&D, creating high-value job opportunities in Bahrain.

“We believe that with Aecom’s expertise and the collaboration of key stakeholders, Beyon Digital City will accelerate Bahrain’s digital economy and solidify its position as a leader in innovation and enterprise,” Al Jalahma stated.

Echoing this, Ahmed Al Khayat highlighted the importance of aligning the project with Bahrain’s urban development goals. “Our collaboration with Aecom and other partners will ensure that Digital City enhances connectivity, boosts trade, and fosters new business opportunities,” he said.

The Digital City will feature a multimodal transportation network, including an automated tram system, alongside sustainable urban spaces designed to support innovation and collaboration.

David Border from Aecom expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We are honored to lead the master planning of Beyon Digital City. Our focus will be on sustainable urban design, efficient transport integration, and creating a vibrant, people-centered environment.”

With its strategic infrastructure, sustainable planning, and emphasis on digital innovation, Beyon Digital City is set to become a landmark development, reinforcing Bahrain’s role as a leading regional technology and innovation hub
