Bahrain-born foodtech company Calo has officially entered the UK market through the acquisition of two leading meal delivery brands: Fresh Fitness Food and Detox Kitchen. This marks Calo’s first expansion beyond the Gulf, setting the stage for broader international growth.

The strategic move strengthens Calo’s presence in the UK by incorporating brands that share its commitment to health-focused, personalized nutrition. “The UK is a natural next step for us, with its cultural similarities, shared language, and timezone alignment,” said Calo Co-founder and CEO Ahmed Alrawi in a statement to The Grocer.

Founded in 2019 by Ahmed Alrawi and Moayed Almoayed, Calo delivers AI-powered, customized meal plans tailored to individual health and fitness goals. Since launching in Bahrain, the company has scaled rapidly across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.

This latest acquisition will see Detox Kitchen integrated into Calo in April, followed by Fresh Fitness Food in May. Customers of both brands will be smoothly transitioned to Calo’s platform, with similar meal plans to ensure consistency and satisfaction.

Calo’s expansion comes on the heels of its $25 million Series B funding round completed in December 2024. The round was led by Nuwa Capital, with participation from STV, Khwarizmi Ventures, and regional family offices. The capital injection was earmarked for global expansion, with mergers and acquisitions as a core strategy.

Looking ahead, Calo plans to deepen its footprint in Europe and North America and is eyeing a potential IPO in Saudi Arabia by 2027.
