Ericsson and Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) have joined forces to enhance Bahrain’s mobile broadband infrastructure, expanding 4G and 5G network capabilities, coverage, and capacity. This strategic partnership underscores a commitment to innovation and sustainability while optimizing Batelco’s infrastructure for improved resource efficiency.
As part of the network upgrade, Batelco has integrated Ericsson’s advanced Radio Access Network (RAN) solutions, including massive MIMO antennas, to enhance connectivity and performance. Additionally, the Core network has been upgraded to the latest Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI), enabling it to accommodate increased voice and data traffic seamlessly.
To further boost efficiency, Batelco has implemented energy-saving solutions such as dual-mode triple-band radios and Interleaved AIR 3218. These technologies reduce space requirements and cut energy consumption by up to 20% while optimizing overall network performance.
Batelco has also modernized its Ericsson Mediation system, transitioning to a cloud-native platform that enhances operational efficiency and supports key applications, including IoT and 5G standalone use cases. The new platform offers scalability, flexibility, and faster deployment of next-generation network services.
Through these advancements, Batelco’s network becomes more robust, efficient, and sustainable, catering to the increasing connectivity demands of both consumers and businesses in Bahrain. This collaboration with Ericsson ensures Batelco’s infrastructure is future-ready, optimized for evolving technologies, and poised to support the digital transformation of the region.
