Tamkeen has partnered with Amazon Web services (AWS) and Etijah Coaching and Consulting, to support the Innov8 Hackathon – a country-wide initiative on cloud-based innovation. The event took place on 19th March at Zain Bahrain headquarters with representatives from EDB, University of Bahrain, Bahrain Polytechnic, and AWS Bahrain in attendance. 

Innov8 Hackathon aims to showcase innovation through a focus on SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. Over a period of 48 hours, several shortlisted teams will be tasked with hacking possible inventive and relevant solutions in the form of prototypes involving cloud-based technologies. 

Applications for the Hackathon are open from today until the 5th of May, 2023. Interested applicants may apply as a team of 3-5 individuals. A virtual learning week will be hosted from May 8th – 10th and will consist of technical and soft skills workshops as well as panel discussions to guide the participants in working on their prototypes. The event will conclude with an in-person closing and judging event on 16th May 2023. Innov8 Hackathon will employ the knowledge of various experienced mentors in the field who will assist the teams during the hackathon. 

Upon the concluding hour of the hackathon, each team will present their prototypes to a panel of judges from reputable private and public sector organizations, [different industries belonging to the government, semi-government and private sectors]. The winning teams will each receive a cash prize of $5000 (USD).

The event has two admissible age-group levels: 

  • Level 1 – High School Students (ages 14-18) 
  • Level 2 – University Students & Recent Graduates (ages 18-25)
