The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) has become the first bank in the MENA region to have partnered with the Allied Engineering Group (AEG).

AEG is one of the largest SWIFT Service Bureaus in the world with banks from more than 65 countries connected to its data centers. With this new partnership, the NBB will be able to migrate its international remittance system (SWIFT) to Amazon Web Service (AWS) cloud platform.

This is a major milestone for the bank’s ongoing digital transformation that aims to have efficient cloud-based platforms at the core of its operations. On that count, it is also a step in the right direction as far as the Bahraini government’s cloud adoption roadmap is concerned. Among other things, the partnership will also pave the way for other major financial institutions in the Kingdom to improve operational efficiency with cloud adoption.

The NBB-AEG partnership was finalized at a virtual signing ceremony on Jan 28, 2021. The ceremony was attended by key personnel including Razi Amin, NBB Head of Information Technology, Ali AlSaegh, NBB Head of IT security and Nabeel Mustafa, NBB Head of Network Management and Strategy, Osama Nasr, Chief Information Officer at Bahrain Islamic Bank, Mohamed Sanad, Head of AEG Bahrain, and Ahmed Al-Sawafiri, Strategic Accounts Lead at Amazon Web Services.

“The expansion resulting from our partnership with AEG and AWS ensures that NBB Group’s SWIFT systems are hosted and managed according to the highest information security levels in compliance with the adopted service availability levels, best practices, and global standards,” said Razi Amin, Head of Information Technology at NBB
