Global security firm G4S will invest more than US $3 million to expand its cash-management arm in Bahrain, a move set to add 160 jobs and deepen the kingdom’s credentials as a regional fintech and financial-services hub.
Backed by the Bahrain Economic Development Board and licensed by the Central Bank of Bahrain, G4S Cash Solutions Bahrain now holds an Ancillary Service Provider licence that covers cash processing, deposit preparation, corporate and retail consolidation, ATM balancing, and reconciliation. The new authorisation lets the company handle end-to-end currency logistics for banks and large retailers—services that reduce branch workloads and tighten audit trails at a time when digital payments are up but physical cash remains essential for payroll and day-to-day trade. Managing director Christos Volis says Bahrain’s forward-looking regulation was a decisive factor, citing the island’s sophisticated financial sector and quick licence turnaround.
G4S has operated locally since 1997 and doubled down after parent Allied Universal’s 2021 acquisition of Agility GIL, making this the second scale-up in three years. The expansion dovetails with Bahrain’s Financial Services Development Strategy, which targets 20 percent of GDP from the sector by 2026 and calls for stronger capital-markets infrastructure and more fintech jobs. For startups building cash-in, cash-out or ATM-as-a-service products, a larger G4S footprint means shorter settlement windows and an easier on-ramp to bank-grade vault services, while the 160 new roles—ranging from tech-enabled cash analysts to secure-transport staff—will add depth to an already 70 percent-Bahraini workforce. Chief investment officer Ali Almudaifa says the deal signals confidence in the kingdom’s growth trajectory and its cost-competitive operating base.
“This expansion will enable us to provide a wide range of services to customers. The Kingdom of Bahrain has been supportive throughout the set-up process, and we look forward to benefiting from the Kingdom’s forward-looking regulations and highly developed financial services sector.”
