Tamatem, one of MENA’s leading mobile game publishers, has raised $3.5 million in a Series A follow-on round led by Wamda Capital. Significant contributions came from North Base Media and Modern Electronics Company, the latter is a subsidiary of AL Faisaliah Group.
The startup, which has so far focused its efforts in the Arabic-speaking market, aims to utilize the newly raised capital on two fronts.
First, Tamatem will further strengthen its presence in the regional market, alongside which the company is now preparing to push for the global market beyond MENA.
The 2020 roadmap for the company includes a calibrated upward momentum of the marketing scale of existing titles — possibly involving offline events and more. Apart from that, Tamatem will also launch a new office in Riyadh.
Worth noting here is that Tamatem has so far had immense success in the Arabic speaking market. The company boasts 75 million downloads overall with 3.5 million monthly active users.
Commenting on the company’s growth potential, Tamatem CEO Hussam Hammo pointed out: “[..] Lots of startups in the Middle East feel their market potential is limited to this region. I love seeing startups expand beyond those boundaries and I am proud that the team at Tamatem is now looking beyond just the Arabic speaking market. I believe this latest round of funding will allow us to deliver on our vision of becoming the top mobile games publisher for every underserved emerging market in the world.”
